Midnight Horrors Wiki

"Bow to your master."

Apostle is a Killer in Midnight Horrors. It was added in Version 1.53.0.

Behavior

Upon spawning, Apostle will extend the timer to 4:10 and will spawn at the Red Circle of Oculus, moving at a slow pace, walking towards the nearest target. If a target were to enter his line of sight (of ~360 studs), he will begin to run at them at a rapid speed. If the target is within 250 studs of the Apostle while being in his line of sight, he may approach perform a long ranged dash, instant teleportation, or continue to run towards the target to close the distance.

Upon initiating a long ranged dash, Apostle will crouch down and dash towards the target, causing explosions in his path, dealing rather high damage. This dash will always cover 250 studs of distance (unless there is an obstacle in the way), causing him to over shoot if the target is under 250 studs away. This dash has a low cooldown of 5 seconds. Apostle may also teleport to his target instead of dashing, after which he will approach the target at a walking pace without attacking for 1 to 3 seconds.

Apostle's instant teleportation has a cooldown of roughly 10 seconds. If the target is close to him, he will wave his arm left or right, sending players and ally NPCs alike flying in that direction with a gust of wind while dealing moderate damage and unequipping any tools the player was holding. If the target is sent flying into a wall, they will be dealt extra damage. Alternatively, he may snap his fingers, knocking players and ally NPCs upwards before creating a blast that suspends and trip players and ally NPCs mid-air, dealing moderate damage.

If a target is relatively close but not in range of the gusts, Apostle may stomp the ground, sending out a wave that trips and pulls in nearby targets, dealing minor damage, all while creating a circular barrier around himself with a radius of 100 studs. The barrier will persist for a roughly 4 seconds and will prevent players from passing through. If a player is within 200 studs of the Apostle while being in his line of sight but not in range of his close ranged attacks, Apostle may perform a dash without explosions that covers whatever distance is between him and his target, ending the dash with an AOE slam instead, dealing up to 100 damage, dealing more damage to those closer to the slam while knocking any players and ally NPCs hit far away (Velocity of those knocked away also scales off of distance from the slam). This dash has a cooldown of 8 seconds.

Something doesn't feel right...

Once the timer reaches 3 minutes, Apostle will begin his second phase. A cutscene will play for all players, after which all players will switch bodies with another random player and receive the loadout of whoever they possessed; the items placement being completely random. The shop is inaccessible during this phase.

Apostle will then proceed to sprint towards the nearest target and gains several new abilities during this phase:

  • Summoned Hands – Apostle summons up to four hands in the air, each targeting a random alive player or an Ally NPC and will eventually despawns at random times. While making a brief warning with green circles as an indicator, the hands can:
    • Smash the area the player is running toward (or directly on them if they are stationary).
    • Fire a laser that disintegrates anything in its path, this attack also has a sound cue before being fired.
  • Close-Range Hand Summon – Apostle utilizes the summoned hands in close ranged combat, slamming them down on players and summoning lasers from them.
  • Expanding Lightning Orb – Apostle summons two hands above himself, generating an orb that expands before shattering. This releases bolts of lightning that instantly kill anything nearby. During this attack, Apostle remains idle and performs no other actions. Players killed by this ability become Puppets, prompted with a death screen.
  • Thunder Strike - Apostle casts a Lightning Bolt to strike the ground underneath his targets, instantly killing them and converts into Puppets, prompted with a death screen.
  • Traps – Semi-transparent circles appear on the ground every 2.5 seconds and despawn after 15 seconds. If a player steps into a trap, they are knocked upwards and take moderate damage while bounded by two green strings for 3 seconds, preventing movement and item use.

Apostle rarely walk towards his targets during this phase unless performing an instant teleport or close-range hand summons and will run towards targets at high speed. Additionally, Apostle will completely stop walking altogether once the timer hits 2:00.

Puppets walk around hunched over, targeting players and ally NPCs, moving at a moderate speed. If a target is relatively close to a Puppet, they may speed up in an attempt to catch their target. After catching up with their target, Puppet will attack by clawing at their targets, dealing high damage. Puppets can also perform abilities such as:

  • String Pull – Puppets extend strings from their arms to pull targets closer.
  • Barrier Formation – If a Puppet moves between two barriers within 100 studs of each other, its back strings expand, blocking passage. However, Puppets will not convert to barriers when they are close to spawn points or other Puppets currently acting as a barrier.
  • Puppet Swap - Apostle can swap positions with a Puppet and take its appearance for a short time. This ability activates when a Puppet is closer to a target than Apostle and/or Apostle has no targets within his direct line of sight.

If a player owns the Guitar in their inventory, Apostle will delete it for the duration of the round. This is to avoid players shortening the timer by playing Song of Double Time. Guitar can be returned to the owner's inventory through resetting. Though, If a player were to somehow plays the Song of Double Time, Apostle will then announce every player with these messages on their screens, saying:

"Fools."
"Why must you break balance?"
"Just return to dust and stop playing god."

The round timer will be increased to 6:00, and four additional second phase Apostles will spawn. The round will transition into a FINAL ACT, and Apostle’s name will be replaced with "Return to dust...".

  • Regardless of the timer being modified, the swap will always revert the timer back to 3:00.
