Blackout is a Special Round in Midnight Horrors. While it functions similar to Fog, Blackout temporarily disables all sources of lighting for the entire duration of the round and restricts players to rely on their flashlight as their only way to navigate around the map.
Effect[]
As stated previously, Blackout will temporarily disable all sources of lighting in a map, but will not disable the player's flashlight or any lighting emitted from items (if they're unequipped at the start of the round).
Some killers such as Anita, Fraud, and Necrobloxian will become difficult to spot while the map is shrouded in darkness, putting players at a greater disadvantage during a blackout if any of these killers (and any other killers that can blend themselves into the darkness) are active in a round. Killers such as Agony, Car, Ignited Bonnie, and Noisemaker will have some sorts of lighting or distinct feature that players can identify in the darkness, giving them an upper-hand while the special round is active.
Difficulty[]
Similar to Moviestar, Blackout is most effective in indoors maps such as The Backrooms and the Library where players are heavily reliant on light to navigate through the map. This can greatly reduce the players' effectiveness of planning out an escape route as most will often run into random exits, only to find themselves in a dead-end situation. Blackout in outdoors maps or maps with very little rooms is not as effective, since players can either pinpoint a killer's current position from afar or the map is vast that killers will mostly be chasing people at the center of the map.
Notes[]
- It is worth noting that players may rely on coils to illuminate their surroundings. The light emitted by coils can be seen by other players while Blackout is active and can serve as helpful 'light beacons' to identify a killer's current position if a coil user is being pursued or as a way to navigate around the map.
- While light emitted by coils is considered helpful, it is important to note that light emitted from coils will go out if it's equipped when the Blackout effect occurs.
